Let's Talk About Sex Baby...

So, about a week or two ago, this is about how the conversation went:

[Picture this: I'm sitting on my bed working on my laptop with the TV on as background noise when Miss. Faith comes into my room and sits down on the bed next to me.]

Faith: "Tell me about the 'S' word."

Me: "Huh?"

Faith: [whispering] "You know, sex"

Me: [surprised, but playing it cool] "What would you like to know?"

Faith: [very matter-of-fact] "Well on TV they were talking about how parents need to talk to their kids about sex. So what do I need to know?"

Me: "What would you like to know?"

Faith: "Well, when should I be doing it?"

Me: [thinking "Never!", but calmly answer] "Usually it's after college ... " [okay, not always] "... and it's usually with the person you're marrying. Does that make sense?" [let's not get into all the other parts of this discussion right now...]

Faith: "Hmm. Okay. So why do people have sex?"

Me: "Well, it feels nice and some people just have sex because it feels nice. But it's best when people do it do when they love each other and want to have a baby."

Faith: [as a statement] "So you and Dad have sex."

Me: "Yep. . . Do you have any other questions?"

Faith: [all casual] "Nope."

Me: "Feel free to ask me if you have any more questions."

Faith: "Okay." [And she hops off the bed and heads off to play.]

Me: [Dear Lord!]

Ahh, yet another day with a precocious child.
