We made it!!!

My co-worker, Nancy, and I have made it to New York City! I have taken my first ride in a yellow taxi cab and I'm still kinda in shock that I'm here. . . . Oh, small town girl in the big city!

One quick observation before we head out: Riding in the taxi cab was kinda scary but also fascinating. . . It's like a choreographed number: The cars dart in and out between each other like they're dancing. Wow!

My Philosophy

I believe in always trying to be honest while being kind and tactful.

I believe in doing what you say you'll do and doing it to the best of your ability.

I believe that life isn't practice and you don't have "days off" -you should strive to be your best everyday. . . My friend Karen told me about her son's football coach telling the kids that "I want to see you play in practice like you play for the game" - how's the coach to be a good judge of your abilities if you don't show him? So true, everyday is the "game" - everyday you should strive to do your best and show what you're capable of. Do you know that if you give your all and push yourself each day - the next day, you'll be able to push yourself a little further?

I believe that family is important and that "family" is unconditional. I may have crazy cousins who have been in and out of jail, or I may have a in-law who just doesn't "get it", or relatives who have been abusive - - but family is family and if they're broke down on the side of the road three hours away and I have a dinner party scheduled, I will drop everything and be there for them because that's what family does.

I believe in loyalty and being trustworthy. . . I try not to say anything that I wouldn't want repeated (though, usually during arguments with Joel, I slip up on this one!). I believe that if someone tells me something in confidence - then it's not to be shared. It's a privilege for someone to share their thoughts and feelings with you - - it's a gift, not to be taken lightly. Treasure it and protect it as such.

I believe in trying to always grow, learn, and improve - what's the point of staying the same; that sounds awful dull.

I believe that life is to be enjoyed and that you're never too old to play. It's not worth it to be "popular" if it means that you have to compromise who you are inside. Strive always to be true to yourself - - if you like to jump in puddles, then, by golly - jump in puddles! If you like Disney movies then watch Disney movies (one of my personal favorites). If you're afraid of heights then go ahead and accept it.

I have all sorts of insecurities inside myself - - feeling too fat or dorky or . . . all sorts of thoughts. But, I try - that's the point. In the end, I believe that God is here for me and that I can always turn to Him and that if I listen hard enough and can force myself to be still enough then I'll be able to hear His voice. I believe that God will work with what I give Him. How's that for a philosophy?

It tends to boil down to something that I read once: "Live so that your friends would defend you but never have to". That stuck with me.

Philosophy? I love my kids so much that it hurts; my husband drives me absolutely crazy, swearing mad, and makes me laugh - often in the span of an hour; my family is my family - they're a part of who I am and who I will be; I praise God for my friends; and, I wait, filled with anticipation, for the next step in life.
